Jessie Work: Turning Opportunity into Ownership at Domino’s

In 2013, 17-year-old Jessie Work started her first job at a local Domino’s in Rapid City, South Dakota – a workplace where she felt an immediate connection to the people and culture. While many may not see a high school job as a long-term opportunity, Jessie knew Domino’s would be part of her future.
“Even when I was getting letters from colleges, I just knew Domino’s was where I wanted to be,” said Work. “I didn’t know exactly what it would look like yet, I just knew this was going to be something big in my life.”
Work actively took on additional responsibilities that helped her deepen her understanding of store operations. Each new position built her confidence as she continued to grow and step into new roles.
“I’ve worn almost every hat,” Work said. “I’ve been a customer service representative, driver, shift leader, assistant manager and general manager. Every role helped shape who I am as a leader today.”
While serving as a general manager, Work realized she was ready to pursue store ownership, a milestone she had been aspiring to for years. In 2020, that dream became a reality when she and her husband, Cory, made the bold decision to sell their home to invest in a Domino’s store.
“You can always buy another house, but you don’t always get the chance to buy a Domino’s,” Work said.
Determined to do things the right way, Work leaned on the guidance and partnership of franchisee Allan Erwin, who owned the store she worked in. Over the years, he was a steady supporter who became a mentor she deeply values.
“What really separated Jessie for me was when she came to me not just saying she wanted to franchise, but showing me exactly how she was going to do it,” said Erwin. “In nearly 20 years, I hadn’t seen that. She had a real plan, backed by smart decisions she had made on her own, including investing in real estate at a young age. We worked with her to develop a store in an area that made sense for her family, and from day one, we knew the execution would be there. She leads with accountability and positivity in a way that you just can’t teach.”
Together, they identified Belle Fourche, South Dakota, as the ideal location. Work embraced the opportunity and stepped into her current role as Erwin’s operating partner and director of operations, running the store with both independence and strong support from his franchise team.
What sets Work apart as a leader is her presence. She is in the store every day, building relationships with team members and customers alike. She combines Domino’s training tools with hands-on coaching, ensuring her team feels supported, challenged and valued. She creates a culture that feels personal, positive and empowering.
Her people-first approach extends beyond the store, as Work is deeply invested in the Belle Fourche community. She and her husband support local schools and youth sports and regularly organize fundraisers and pizza donations for nearby causes. Work believes Domino’s should be more than just a place to order pizza. Her store is a trusted community partner, and she is proud to be known locally as “the Domino’s girl.”
“Jessie embodies the spirit of Domino’s through her consistency, high standards and deep commitment to her people,” said Gwyn Geiman, director of training for Erwin’s franchise. “She runs an excellent operation, but what truly sets her apart is how intentionally she develops her team. She understands each individual, places them where they can thrive and invests the time and energy to help them get there. She expects a lot and gives just as much in return, leading with both kindness and determination.”
Outside of her role as “the Domino’s girl,” Work is known as a mom to her two young children, from whom she draws daily inspiration. She is especially inspired by her oldest son, Ayven, who is autistic, nonverbal and has alopecia. She credits him as her greatest motivation, pushing her to pursue big goals and reminding others that anything is possible.
“My children are my biggest inspiration, and I’ve also been deeply influenced by the people at Domino’s who took the time to mentor me and challenge me,” Work said. “Their belief in me helped give me the confidence to take so many leaps.”
Work’s story is far from over. With a goal of owning multiple stores and continuing to grow within the Domino’s system, she remains focused on learning, improving and giving back. Her journey is a powerful example of what is possible at Domino’s—we all start somewhere.
