A Slice of Heroism: Domino’s Team Member Makes a Lifesaving Delivery
At Domino's, we are proud to honor team members who go above and beyond to serve their communities and customers. One such individual, now recognized as a local hero, is Fairlawn, Ohio delivery driver Kendra Santiago. Her courage and quick thinking during an unexpected delivery encounter led to an inspiring and heartfelt connection.
As Kendra prepared to start a delivery shift, she received her first call of the night. 74-year-old Bob Lopeman had called to pay for his delivery order. When she was about to take his payment information, the call abruptly dropped.
Upon arriving at the delivery location, Kendra sensed something was wrong. When Bob's wife, Melody, went to the back room to get a tip for Kendra, she returned in a panic, exclaiming that her husband wasn't breathing. Without hesitation, Kendra sprang into action, helping Melody stay calm while doing everything she could to elevate Bob and monitor his heartbeat. Bob was suffering from a seizure caused by an aneurysm in his brain.
"When I realized that Bob needed help, I was nervous about his well-being," said Kendra. “I did what I thought was the best option and called 911 after he seized out to ensure he was okay."
Soon after, paramedics rushed him to the local hospital where Bob had emergency surgery to stop the brain bleed.
"Doctors said I would have died if they didn't get to it in time,” said Bob. “I'm lucky to be alive."
Kendra's heroic actions saved Bob's life, and she went to visit him in the hospital following his surgery. The two still remain in contact to this day.
"This experience will have a long-lasting impact on me," said Kendra. "It made me more aware that anything can happen anytime and to keep my eyes open. This delivery helped me to rediscover my passion for people, and saving lives means a lot to me."
Doing the right thing is at the core of Domino's values, and Kendra's actions embody the brand’s dedication to its customers and the communities we serve.
"When I first heard about Kendra's delivery experience, I was simply amazed," said Kelly Dyck, director of operations for the Domino’s franchisee Kendra works for. "I'm just blown away at how she was able to stay calm and react so quickly."
Kendra was recognized by WJW FOX 8 News on "Cleveland's Own," a notable acknowledgment for people who go the extra mile.
"It's just great to see and hear about something good," said Kelly. "We need more of it. Things like this need to be focused on more. More people need to follow Kendra's example and help when it's needed."
