Domino’s Celebrates LGBTQIA+ Community During Pride Month and Beyond
Domino’s LGBTQIA+ Employee Resource Group, True Colors, wasn’t going to let the first Pride Month since its inception go off without a bang. The team stacked up four events throughout the month of June, from a company-wide virtual Drag Queen Bingo hosted by Five15, to a fireside chat via Microsoft Teams Live.
“It is important for us to remember all those who came before us, fought for the rights we have now as LGBTQIA+ individuals,” said Monish Mukhiya, a software quality assurance analyst with Domino’s, who helped organize the events. “It is our responsibility to continue with that work towards equality, give hope to those who are still struggling and celebrate all we have accomplished so far.”
Celebrating Pride Month and diversity as a whole is nothing new to Domino’s though. Domino’s recognizes and honors team members’ stories year-round, like Missouri supply chain center team leader Jerry McDonagh.
“My twin sister ‘came out’ to me, only because I was in an interracial relationship,” Jerry said. “Her struggle was real and risky (in her mind), but not for me. She feared losing me forever which was the only difficult part of the whole conversation. I love my sister deeply and cannot imagine a world without her in it.”
His advice? Don’t hold back, and be the best you can be. Monish has additional advice for those in the LGBTQIA+ community.
“Find out what support groups are available to you and reach out to them with questions and concerns,” Monish said. “Sometimes, the best thing someone can do for you is listen to you. Be aware of the rights you have as a queer person (where you live) and if people are held accountable for violating your rights.”
As Pride Month comes to a close, Brenda Vasquez, Domino’s Pizza Prep School specialist, reflects on what it means to her.
“Pride Month means that I can go to work and do my job with a smile on my face because no one is interested in judging me or my work because I’m gay,” she said. “I am gay. I am proud. I am me.”
