FFA Students Earn Scholarships Sponsored by Domino’s for Unique Accomplishments
Twins Rianna and Sheridan Chaney grew up raising cattle in Nebraska before they moved to their farm in Keymar, Maryland. Like many other students raised on farms across the U.S., both Rianna and Sheridan were active members of their school’s Future Farmers of America chapter. Before graduating from Catoctin High School in Keymar in June 2022, the twins volunteered for many agriculture-related service projects in their community, held distinguished leadership roles, and won multiple prestigious awards and accolades.
In acknowledgement of their achievements, Domino’s granted each twin one of 18 scholarships awarded in 2022. Both Rianna and Sheridan plan to study agricultural communications at their colleges in the fall. Sheridan hopes to compete on the livestock judging team at Butler Community College with the intention of transferring to Oklahoma State University for her last two years of college. Rianna would like to travel after she graduates from Oklahoma State University to promote agriculture across the country through photography and videography.
“This scholarship will allow me to pursue my dream career and will help me leave a positive impact on the farming industry,” said Sheridan. “I am so grateful to Domino’s for this scholarship and FFA for shaping me into the person I am today and making me a more confident individual.”
FFA members embrace concepts taught in agriculture science classes nationwide, build valuable skills through experimental learning projects, and demonstrate their proficiency in competitions annually based on real-world agriculture skills. The entrepreneurial work conducted by FFA students daily helps advance the agriculture industry and impacts the future of farming in a positive way. What sets Rianna and Sheridan apart from their accomplished FFA peers? They co-wrote a series of children’s books that promote the agriculture industry. The girls had many unique, separate experiences and projects in FFA, but creating the series is a special one they share together.
The Chaney Twins’ Ag Books are a collection of stories narrated by the twins about their different experiences in farming with the goal of helping children understand the importance of agriculture. Sheridan and Rianna co-author, publish and market the books on their website, starting with their first book “Little Star… Raising Our First Calf,” which was published in 2008. By the time they completed their supervised agriculture experience focusing on agricultural literacy through FFA, they had a total of nine books on the market ranging from stories about their memories growing up on a ranch to the importance of beef and dairy in a healthy diet. Sheridan and Rianna’s time in FFA provided them with experiences that they wrote about in their books, and the girls know that they wouldn’t be the same without the organization.
Domino’s support of FFA impacts the ag industry for the better by helping students achieve their goals through awarding collegiate scholarships and funding grants that allow students to launch their own agriculture projects – just like the Chaney twins’ book series.
